Some News

February 27th, 2009

Hello there, hope everyone is having good time blogging on WordMess,

Today we have a couple of news:

1) We uploaded some new designs to WordMess and hope you’ll like them.

2) We activated the so-called “PicZip” plugin on all blogs.

Whats PicZip?

Now, on your “Write Post” screen you will see this small icon . What it allows you to do is to upload a *.zip file containing pictures in any of the most popular formats (png, jpeg, jpg, gif). It then opens your zip file and gives you the code that you can copy/paste to your post.

This allows you to upload hundreds of images in a couple clicks without having to upload every single one separately.

3) We also finished our upgrade process of WordMess and hope the new interface works as intended. Please do report all bugs to us via the Help Desk which can be found in your Control Panel.

As cited by News International, the militants who have killed over 100 people in Mumbai have links to the Islamist terror network Al-Qaeda, a top Russian security official told the RIA Novosti state news agency on Thursday.

“The Russian secret services have information that certain groups that have carried out attacks in Mumbai have contacts with Al-Qaeda,” said the official, identified as a senior source at one of Russia’s spy agencies.

“This includes the Lashkar-i-Tayyiba terrorist group. Fighters from this group undergo special training in Al-Qaeda camps, located on the border between Pakistan and India,” the official was quoted as saying.

Earlier on Thursday a spokesman for Lashkar-i-Tayyiba, one of several groups fighting Indian rule in the border province of Kashmir, denied it was involved in the attacks.

The Russian official told RIA Novosti that Moscow had passed information about the threat from Lashkar-i-Tayyiba to New Delhi but it had been ignored.

“Unfortunately, the Indians, at least until now, considered this merely a bandit group. In their opinion it was engaged in a territorial dispute in the region adjacent to Pakistan,” he said.

Just a few months ago we where witnessing the heavy rise in oil prices, with prices peaking at about $150 a barrel. Yet, now, oil prices have fallen to about $70 a barrel, less than the prices were before the rapid growth.

All the major oil producers and consumers are going to meet in Saudi Arabia today to discuss the prices of oil, because such a low price could really lead to the defecit.

Many of us have probably been affected by the price of oil, for example, through petrol prices. The prices back in it’s peak hit me hard, with an average litre of gas almost doubling its price.  And now that the price has heavily decreased, spending on petrol seems like using spare change.

It brings the question of stability of oil though. Many investors back in about June/July could have lost a lot because of the unexpected decrease. Still, hopefully that meeting shall sort a few things out.

Former President of Finland and one of the best mediators in the world was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this Friday. According to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, “through his untiring efforts and good results, he has shown what role mediation of various kinds can play in the resolution of international conflicts.”

CNN lists some of his major achievements: he played “significant” part in establishing Namibia’s independence and his “central” role in solving the question of the Indonesian province of Aceh in 2005. Ahtisaari twice worked to find a solution in Kosovo: in 1999 and again between 2005 and 2007. He also worked with others this year to find a peaceful solution to the problems in Iraq. Moreover, he contributed to resolving other conflicts in Northern Ireland, Central Asia, and the Horn of Africa.
