“Shadow Of The Day”

I close both locks below the window
I close both blinds and turn away

Sometimes solutions aren’t so simple
Sometimes good bye’s the only way

And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey

And the sun will set for you

In cards and flowers on your window
Your friends all plead for you to stay

Sometimes beginnings aren’t so simple
Sometimes good bye’s the only way

And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey

And the sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey

And the sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey

And the sun will set for you

Opposing but equal forces will leave you in a state of equilibrium.  The rising sun will cause photosynthesis all about you.  Your friends and acquaintances will be apparent to you due to light acting both as waves and as particles.  Gravity will cause you to feel weighed down, but chin up, your blood cells will replenish themselves.

I really wish Sadie was in focus in this picture because I love it.

MqbwK

She used to be able to stand up next to the stool and her head would just fit under the keyboard.

Here’s her cousin Micah showing her how it’s done.

EOr2n

Well now she can almost reach the keys.

Maybe if she puts some shoes on…

And maybe if she stands on her tippy toes and reaches as far as she can…

There!

She’s growing so fast that those jeans, which used to be too big for her but I made her wear them anyway are now just right and will be too small in 4 days.

Growing is good though.

That just means she’s closer to making it through one day without falling on her head.

Oh Happy Day

March 11th, 2010

I worked yesterday…for money.

Though it didn’t really feel like work other than driving around between sites.  I used to mow parks, so driving around town was a normal part of work.

But I wasn’t mowing parks today (not that mowing parks wasn’t fun, I just had to find something a little more flexible).

I was taking pictures.

Yup.

I was getting paid.

Real money.

To take pictures.

And drive around town on a gorgeous sunny day.

A friend of ours from church is a realtor and asked me to take pictures of some houses he’s listing.  I did four houses yesterday.

The first one was a nice new home that was staged.  I spent an hour fiddling with settings and taking pics.

1r6Qz

On my way to the next house, the 4-Runner started sputtering anytime I accelerated.  Uh oh.

I called Darryl and asked if we could switch vehicles for the rest of the day.  He was about to head into town from 20 minutes away to work at a site that was on my way.  Lucky day.

Until the 4-runner quit in the middle the intersection of the highway and a very busy road.  Right in the middle.  While the light was changing.

While living out one of my worst fears, I had to jump out and try pushing this very large, heavy burden off the road, meanwhile some rude person honked at me as if I was doing this on purpose to ruin their day or that I just hadn’t noticed that I was stalled in the middle of the intersection and was blocking all the traffic.  Thanks, I’ll get right on that.

It must have been some heavy duty adrenaline that helped me get that truck rolling on flat ground.  That, and leaning over so far to push that I could have been lying flat.

Before I got it out of the intersection, which seemed like it took HOURS, some lady had to turn left in front of me so I had to stop pushing to be polite, and a nice man ran out and helped me push.  We got it off the highway and stopped in a quiet turn lane.

I called Darryl, who was on his way, then ate my lunch.

I must have been humiliated in this often enough in my driving career that it doesn’t phase me much anymore.

A few minutes later, just as I was thinking I should take a picture to post on here so you could get a better feel for what I was going through, a couple of guys knocked on my window, apologized for interrupting my lunch, and offered to push me into a parking lot.  They even had a lady stop traffic for us.  So I don’t have a picture for you, but I’m sure you can imagine it.  Don’t let it ruin your day though.

Darryl picked me up and drove to his work site a block away and let me take the truck for the rest of the day.

I got the other three houses photographed by almost 3:00 and picked up Sadie (she was at Hannah’s).  By the time I was back in town to pick up Darryl, I never wanted to see another clutch again.

Overall, I had a really fun day with a little setback thrown in, but it was nice and sunny out and I was getting paid to take pictures.

It could have been worse.

In order to understand the movie, one has to be quite familiar with French history, especially during the reign of Louis XIV, including the background information on Lully, Robert Cambert, Moliere, Prince de Conti; otherwise, the plot and conversation could be very confusing. One of my biggest problems with this movie is that many characters were cast TOO OLD! Cambert (1628-1677) was only 4 years older than Lully (1632-1687), and yet the actor who played Cambert looks old enough to be the father of Boris Terral (who played Lully) and actually was already 50 year old when the film was shot! The actor who played “Prince de Conti” was already 56 while his character should be a twentyish or thirtyish young man! Same with Moliere. Couldn’t the director find some younger French-speaking acotrs?

But if you like French Baroque music and court dance, then this movie might be for you.

It is pity, many fine French films are out of order. You may get from used seller though.

I have seen some paintings or drawings Louis XIV danses ballet. The Ballet scenes in this film reminded me those pictures.

Most of music is by Lully, A father of French Opera, that is gourgeous. I had never listen to Lully’s music before but they interest me then I bought a CD.

The story is about a life of Jean-Baptist Lully with Louis XIV and Moliere, and basically followed with the fact in the history. Lully composes music for his master, Louis XIV who is a lack of power in early period. Louis danses with Lully’s music. Louis takes a charge and power as a king after the death of the premier Mazarin. His idea conflicts often with his mother and Church. Louis uses power of art as the power of France. Louis orders Moliere and Lully work together and they build up comedy-ballet genre and releases some masterpieces such as “Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme”. Louis is unpreased Lully’s bisexuality and some scandals with young boys but also Louis admits Lully’s outstanding music talent. Because Lully hasn’t been satisfied with working under, he is feeling, Moliere, then finally he excludes him from the court. Lully got old, injures his leg during the concert. He refuses to have his leg cut then dies. Louis didn’t show up dying Lully.

In this film, the story put focus on Lully’s feeling love to his master which is never completed. It looks like he admires his master so deeply that his feeling becomes love. And the master, Louis XIV acted by Benoit Magimel, is detached as a king. “I don’t have any friends” says Louis XIV.

According to some history articles, Lully is a composer who gets the most from his master. And Lully is considered Louis’s personal friend. So I guess their relationship was not like in the film.

The most facinating aspects in the film is, I think, music, ballet scene, custume, and arts. Each cut is as beautiful as a paintings in the museum.

Double the BLESSINGS! =)

February 28th, 2010

After Masi & I were married, we knew right away that we were at a point in our life, when starting a family became a priority, rather than the distant future!  We we’re financially, mentally, & physically able, yet we knew that our families future was in God’s hands!  After two months of wedding bliss we were  one month into our pregnancy!  If God thinks we are ready, that means we are completely prepared RIGHT?  WRONG, way way WRONG!

It’s funny because no matter how ready we think we are to have kids, (or in our case……. MORE KIDS) there’s always something left unanticipated!  I seemed to have overlooked the fact that I will be extremely tired (while pregnant) all the time, & with a 10 month old practically walking all over the place it’s a lot more difficult than I thought it would be!  Now I am beginning to realize with an infant, & a one year old, I’m in for long days, & extremely long nights! I think those parental instincts kick in with just about everyone, but there is so much more that comes with being a parent!  I’m not even thinking of the physical changes your body endures, but more so the things that no one ever warns you about!  The realization that your life has become so much more valuable, the world so much crueler, & your child so vulnerable!  Becoming a parent, adds so much more responsibility on your day to day routines.  Jumping in your car, going to the store & being home to prepare dinner could have taken you half an hour pre-child.  With child:  Now after I’m ready, I make sure my son’s bag is ready just need extra diapers, clothes, or bottles.  I have to make sure Noah’s car seat is in safely, he’s buckled in tight (but not to tight)  & I have his blanket, & little things to keep him busy while running this (what use to be half an hour) arron.  Now I have a second child on the way I double that time, & double the diaper changes, double the tantrums; but what I can not dare leave out, you double the hugs, the smiles, & laughter!  Masi & I will never be prepared no matter how many kids we have, but I know where READY, for the challenges, & every obstacle that we have yet to face, we will conquer together!

Despite people telling us we’re crazy, Masi & I are ready for it!  I think we’ve come to realize that people will always find ways to put us down, or attempt to make us doubt ourselves but if God brings us to it, He’ll bring us through it!”   He has blessed us abundantly with our growing family!  I understand that at 25 years of age, I don’t know everything about life, about  love, & barley anything about raising children, we have to rely on the simple fact, that God has his plans for us, & with God on our side, our GROWING FAMILY will continue to be abundantly blessed!

This is a sweeping statement, but true nonetheless: I believe that Kenneth Branagh’s HENRY V is the greatest screen adaption ever done of Shakespeare. Period. Better than Olivier (although he was great in a very diferent way). Better than any version of Hamlet (even Branagh’s, which is the best of the Hamlets). Better than anything else.

Why do I say this? Simply because no other film adaptation of Shakespeare has captured the essence of what the Bard was trying to say while adding a modern perspective in the process, all in a manner that is readily accessible to a mass audience. Yet that is precisely what this film does.

By sheer genius, Branagh was able to present HENRY V in all of its nationalistic glory, just as Shakespeare wrote it, while at the same time adding an anti-war footnote that serves both as counterpoint and commentary on the Bard’s message. The contrast betwen the St. Crispin’s Day speech as presented here (in which we are made to feel the real power behind Shakespeare’s words) and the gritty, realistic presentation of the battle itself which follows is proof of my assertion.

It’s all here: Lessons on history, loyalty, and the qualities of leadership, all wrapped in a fiercely entertaining package. Branagh’s great accomplishment is to bring the piece to life without the slightest bit of stuffiness or anachronism, and even to add his own touch to an unapproachable masterpiece. This, his first film, remains his crowning achievement. I think the Bard would approve.

This may be the best Shakespeare film ever made. In 1942, Laurence Olivier delivered a jingoistic, stylized wartime production of “Henry V” that nonetheless stood as the standard interpretation. Nearly fifty years later, Kenneth Branagh’s film appeared not only as a powerful and amazingly accessible recasting of the text, but a serious examination of the nature and the costs of the war that was Henry the Fifth’s only real achievement.

Although studded with a fine array of subsidiary characters, “Henry V” is essentially a one-man play, and Branagh’s performance informs and naturally influences all of the rest. His character has most of the lines, and he delivers them with a refreshing naturalism and candor that re-infuses the humor into the funny bits and cuts a lot of the potential for stilted jingoism out of the patriotic and warlike ones. If the real Henry’s delivery of the St. Crispin speech was anything like Branagh’s, it’s no wonder the English won.

Slogging through the mud and rain of Harfleur and Agincourt with Branagh is a masterful supporting cast, including the incomparable Judi Dench as Mistress Quickly, Brian Blessed as a marvelously solid Exeter, and Ian Holm, wonderful as the irreverent and sarcastic Fluellen. On the French side, Paul Scofield’s King is weary and indecisive rather than weak and mad; Michael Maloney’s Dauphin is entertainingly arrogant, and Emma Thompson delivers a small but charming performance in playwright-broken English and much better French than Shakespeare likely spoke. Tying it all together is Christopher Ravenscroft, who invests the herald Mountjoy with a sympathy that extends to both sides, and a phenomenal showing by Derek Jacobi as the earnest, mocking and informative Chorus.

“Henry V” was released and went to video before the heyday of production for DVD, and as such, a “deluxe edition” has not been produced- this disc contains no making-of documentaries, no in-depth interviews with the cast, no online screenplay. But at least in this case, that’s all for the best. The film is stunning enough on its own to need no such accompaniment, and its magic is thereby undiminished.
