Stop President Obama From Putting Israel on the Chopping Block!Dear Friend of Jerusalem,
One would expect the President of the United States to stand firm against America’s enemies and support its allies.
Today however, President Obama used the forum of the United Nations to abandon Israel and embrace the unfounded demands of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
President Obama became the first US President to refer to the territories that Israel won in the (defensive) Six Day War as, ”Occupied Territory.” This implies that Israel must retreat from its own land, return to indefensible ‘67 borders, divide Jerusalem, and capitulate to Palestinian forces bent on destroying Israel.
A few weeks ago, One Jerusalem sent out a Red Alert warning that Obama was going to ambush Israel at the United Nations. He did it, today.
Israel faces a real challenge with Obama. On the one hand, President Obama continually pressures Israel to give up its secure borders. On the other hand, Obama allows for existential threats to Israel, by refusing to engage the US in actively stopping Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
One Jerusalem has been — and will continue to be — on the front lines, in defense of Jerusalem and the Jewish State of Israel. When Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu arrived in New York this week, we were invited to meet and strategize with him.
Now we need you to step up your efforts for the difficult months ahead. We count on you to make phone calls, sign petitions, and demonstrate in the streets.
We need each other now more than ever. Sign up!
Sincerely,
Allen Roth & David Goder

Okay, I have a recipe that you must try tonight, or tomorrow.
I didn’t have any tortillas and I wanted some, so I looked online for a recipe until I found one that didn’t use lard. Not because I’m against lard, but because I had used all mine up! This one uses oil instead. I used grapeseed oil because that’s what we use for everything.
Here’s the scoop:
Throw 3 cups of flour into a mixing bowl.
Mix in a teaspoon of salt.
Add 1/3 cup oil and 1 cup of warm water.
Mix together until it forms a dough. Add a little flour if it’s too sticky.

Now separate a chunk about the size of a kiwi and roll it out as thin as you can get it and at least 10 inches in diameter (this measurement will change depending on the size of the dough you’re rolling out and how thin you get it. It’s not rocket science…you can have variation).
If there’s enough flour, it should lift off the counter easily with your fingers. Throw it in a dry frying pan (please don’t use teflon) on a medium heat.

Now if you’re fast, you’ll have just enough time to grab another hunk of dough and start rolling it out before you have to flip the first one. Then finish rolling it out so it’s ready to go in the pan when the first one comes out. It takes only a couple of minutes to cook.
I found that if you flip the tortilla a second time (so it’s back on the first side), it will puff up. I don’t know if that’s a big no-no or not, but I did a couple times to make sure some of the edges were cooked. It didn’t seem to affect them.

That’s about it. Except try not to eat too many or you won’t have enough for dinner.
You know what? Just go ahead and double the recipe and eat as many as you like. You’ll work up a bit of a sweat rolling them out fast enough to keep the pan occupied.
This was my very first try. Not perfect, but it got eaten too fast to even try rolling anything up in it.

Now they come out much nicer. I made chicken and bean enchiladas with one batch and burritos with another. Sooo good!
You simply must try it!
Back when I was in grade 4, my family lived at and managed a resort on a lake. We lived in a round house that had to be exorcised before we could move in, and we spent the entire summer playing in the water and hanging out with whatever kids happened to be staying at the resort at the time. There was a family that lived there in their 5th wheel trailer…with 4 kids. They had a boat and took us out tubing sometimes. One nice man gave us his canoe.
I still have it.
It needed a bit of an overhaul by the time we moved from the resort to town to the bush and back to town again. The yoke in the middle was broken and the ends were pretty banged up.
I took it upon myself to sand, re-fiberglass the ends, repaint, replace the edging, and make a new yoke.
And indulge in a little creative expression.

I wanted to christen her “Firewater”, cause it just totally made sense, but my mom wouldn’t let me paint that on the side.
Then I learned how to fly fish and I started driving around town with my canoe strapped to my little Toyota 4X4 pickup, which happened to be a nice, rich blue (except on the rusty patches), so the red and yellow totally stood out, and I always put the flames at the front.
There’s also one little flame on the bottom. It was my test to make sure my idea looked okay.
I did all that probably 10 years ago at least.
She’s starting to look her age again. The paint is peeling in some places, the ends are a little chipped, and I think the seats could use some oil. But she’s still lake-worthy. And I still like her.
I might have to leave her for the kids to tackle one day. I’ll probably be pregnant for the next 6 years anyway so I really shouldn’t be using fiberglass and paint in my condition.
I’ll have to take up another hobby.
Like origami. Except those little papers have a funny smell. Is that good to breathe in when you’re pregnant? They’re probably made in China so I guess that one’s out.
I could tat. But what would I do with doilies? Nobody uses them anymore. And I need instant gratification, so I guess that one’s out too.
Maybe I’ll go back to fly fishing. Oh, but I don’t have a little truck to take me out to the bush and I gave away my (cheap) rod.
I know! I’ll blog about all the cool stuff I used to do!
Perfect.
Yesterday when I put the horses out to eat, I went back to the house for my camera and chased them around a bit to show Sadie what big running horses look like.

Banner likes to show off anyway. He sticks his nose out to the side while he’s running just to see if you’re still watching.

There’s something I like about this picture, even though it’s not very flattering for Sunny. Sonny. I suddenly forgot how Darryl decided to spell it.

I like this one too. I like having a white horse to take pictures of.

Not really sure what he’s doing here…

Probably just an itch.
Pesky flies.

Sadie thought it was fun watching them run around, so that’s all that counts.

Even if the horses were hungry.
And it was too hot to be running.
And too hot to be running after them.
And too hot to be taking pictures of them running.
And too hot to be outside at all.
I know, we don’t get out much. That’s mostly because I don’t have a vehicle right now. Not that I would spend a lot of time at the beach if I did, but I probably would have gone a little more often than that.
So yesterday afternoon, after I made some yummy bread, my friend Jackie picked me up and we went to a beach. The sun hid behind clouds half the time, giving us relief from the heat so the temperature was perfect. We stood in the water while Sadie played on the shore and Jackie’s 4 year old daughter played on the playground nearby. We were originally planning to go to a playground in town but at the last minute we decided to go here instead.

I’m so not a beach person, but this was very nice and refreshing. Not too many people were there either. Just some ladies in bikinis who shouldn’t wear bikinis. One of whom was doing her stretches on her beach towel.
No, I don’t have a picture of that.

Sadie somehow managed to sneak her spoon along and used it as a shovel. She wasn’t too keen in standing in the waves but she loved playing with the rocks. I showed her how to throw them in the water to make a splash and she tried, but her rocks only made it about 2 inches. So cute.

Thanks Jackie!
Veggies I can grow. Flowers on the other hand, continue to frustrate me by not growing, or dying shortly after I get them.
My first try at growing flowers from seed was many years ago when I lived in the bush with my family (see History category). I planted coleus seed in a hanging basket and fashioned a plastic cover for it so it would have its own mini-greenhouse. I watered it faithfully every day before school and replaced its cover.
Some of the seeds came up but I think they got fried in the sun and never flowered.
I’ve been bitter towards flowers ever since. Bitter because they won’t grow for me.
Heaven knows I keep trying.
(I’m also bitter towards gourds, but that’s another story)
Well, this year I planted a whole bunch of old flower seeds my grandma had collected just to see what would happen. Nada. Nothing came up.
Surprise, surprise.
My very forgiving husband bought me some potted flowers this spring, and I’ve managed to keep them alive all summer!
So what if they’re the easiest kinds to keep alive.
Geranium.

And Pansy.

So I have some colour around my house and garden this summer. (Thanks for believing in me, honey!)
While moping and berating myself for my lack of flower-growing skills, I found a whole bunch of flowers that I grew from seed right in my garden already! Who knew? Veggies have flowers!
See if you can guess what plants they’re from.

Okay, the last one isn’t from a vegetable. It was given to me by some friends (Thanks Shirley!).
So did you figure them all out?
I actually grow lots of flowers, just mostly white or yellow ones. But you can eat what grows after them, so that’s a bonus.
I’m not sure yet if I will give up trying to grow normal flowers. My newfound success at growing flowers from seed, even if they’re vegetables, may have just whetted my appetite to try some again next year.
Any recommendations??
I tried sweet peas, but hardly any came up and none of them survived, even though they’re in the same soil as all my veggies and get the same care! Argghhh!
Signed,
A Frustrated Flower Fan
Wow, I have 92 posts on here since I started this blog on August 15 last year. I’m going to try for 100 by the 15th.
This one counts.
It doesn’t have to have pictures to count.
Or words, even.
Okay, a couple words.
How about,
Good.
Night.
